About

I am your Mezuzah:

I am a symbol of Jewish pride. An open invitation to welcome the Divine.

Meet: Mezuzah.

From my perch on your doorway, I provide protection and security. The Shema prayer inscribed within me affirms G-d's unity and presence in our lives.

A Mezuzah is an expression of the watchful eye of G-d that constantly protects us, giving personal attention that only the Divine can provide. A G-dly embrace.

I am Mezuzah.

What I do

I serve as protection for the inhabitants of your home.

I help remind you of your heritage and strengthen your connection to G-d; marking our house as a place where G-d can call home. While you may not install a Mezuzah everyday, it shapes and frames our everyday life. I transform your house into a home, helping build an enclave of holiness and spirituality that is dedicated to meaning, purpose and tradition.

The Talmud recounts the story of Onkelos, who upon converting to Judaism and settling in Jerusalem, expounded on his life choice to Roman legionnaires tasked with bringing him back to Rome. As he left his home, he gave me a kiss. When asked for the reason for his singular act, he explained that a mortal king has servants standing outside his house on guard. The King of Kings, however, is Himself guarding His servants outside their homes.

The Kabalah explains that the word mezuzoth, the plural of my name, is a combination of the words ‘zaz’ and ‘maveth’ which means literally: Death: Remove thyself.”

I provide both spiritual and physical protection, symbolizing G-ds presence and guidance in your home, granting security and peace of mind to those within.

What's inside me

INK + PARCHMENT

I am handcrafted parchment and placed on the doorposts of Jewish homes and offices. The words of the Shema prayer are expertly handwritten by a scribe using ink and quill.

Maintain me

It is customary to have me checked twice every seven years, or even every year, prior to the High Holidays. Even if you purchased me from a reputable source and previously found to be perfectly kosher, there is always room for human error, and new cracks and other problems can appear with time. Of course, this checking must be done by an expert scribe.

I have recently been on more people’s minds. This is because the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory, would often urge people who encountered health challenges or other difficulties to have their mezuzahs (and tefillin) checked to make sure that every scroll was in good shape and properly placed on the doorpost.

Share me

Mezuzah it forward is an opportunity to share this beautiful Mitzvah with your friends.

Gift a Mezuzah, and help others transform their home into an abode, protected and infused with a message of G-d's unconditional love and closeness.

Is your home connected?

A mezuzah on your doorpost connects your home to a Higher Protection Agency.

In fact, that's how every mitzvah works — tefillin, Shabbat candles, Torah study, acts of kindness. Think of them as dedicated connections putting you online with the Infinite Server of All Things.

Mezuzahs, however, have a special quality: They connect directly to the protection function. As the sages of the Talmud taught, put a mezuzah on your door and you're protected in your house and away. Now that's something no earthbound service offers.

That's why, in 1974, when terrorism began to rise, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, declared a worldwide mezuzah blitz. Thanks to that campaign, mezuzahs are once again a standard feature on Jewish doorposts everywhere.
